When I’m sitting and thinking about all the cool new restaurants to try out in Edmonton, I can think of dozens that I want to visit. But when it comes time to choose a place for dinner, I find my husband and I too easily go back to our tried-and-true favorites.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with going back to a favorite restaurant. There is comfort in knowing what to expect. But then I think back to how these places became our favorites. It was because we took a chance.

My husband and I recently went to a new restaurant for dinner and we decided to look at it as an adventure. We both picked a couple dishes and I promised to try everything that was in front of me. The end result? I realized that olives aren’t as horrible as I had originally thought (at least not when they are breaded and deep fried) and that Three Boars makes the most amazing chicken and pork liver pate. Like seriously amazing, lick-the-plate-clean, I-want-to-go-back-right-now-and-eat-more pate.

It may not be an adventure of the travel or outdoors variety, but trying out a new restaurant is an adventure.

So where else should we go for dinner?
